General play

Cochise

Steve Carr
Pep had a sly dig at Spurs in the press today, calling us the "Harry Kane team".

Whilst it will be played down as him just commenting on how good Kane is at the moment, he does still touch on something that does cut a little too close. The second goal today was a great team goal, however our general play this year has been a little ponderous at times, not to mention that we seem to be controlling games less (Huddersfield were very good for this opening 20 mins, just like Apoel midweek).

We can point out that Dele is going through a real rough patch, but is this more to do with the switch to a permanent 343? Last year the 343 worked well for us and we are missing Dembele, but the switch back to a 4231 late on saw us playing our best football.

Yes Pep has an embarassment of riches at Emirates Marketing Project and we are slightly forced into this system by our current lack of squad depth, but should we be looking for more from our team?

nothing wrong with that it is true that we rely a lot and perhaps the risk is a bit too much.... but what do you do unless you can spend endlessly like Emirates Marketing Project?

i like pep and perhaps he meant that as a compliment to kane, but it is also how we play and how we get our results today. pep probably understands it when he was coach of barca. however no one can say its the wrong decision/strategy for us today, when kane is in red hot form.

I think the side is built around being solid at the back, organised in midfield, and then to simply give the ball to Harry whenever possible. ;)

We normally start the season slowly and are just beginning to settle and find form (plus we have missed our first choice midfield, as other have pointed out). I am sure that we will be back to our fluid best by the end of next month.

Kane is a fabulous player which every team in the league would have at the drop of a hat, the comments are designed to be little our club by managers from rival clubs. The media allow their favourites to say what they like without being asked to qualify the statements. Conte, Klopp and Guadeola have arrived with big reputations and require a lot of stroking and despite having first class academies seem reluctant to use them or improve players and buy ready made solutions rather than demonstrate their coaching abilities.

That was essentially our second choice midfield, including wing backs. Davies Winks Dier Trippier isn't as scary as Rose Wanyama Dembele Aurier.

The lads played did extremely well against an alright Huddersfield team who are well coached. We made them our bitch.
Think you need to slow down in your assessment of who our first choice full backs are. Davies has been exceptionally efficient this season in terms of both attack and defence, and Rose has been out so long you have no idea if he's ever going to return to his top form - especially with his rant pre season who knows if he's up for the fight. As for Aurier, are you kidding me? Yes he comes with a good rep, and needs time to settle. But right now there is absolutely zero evidence he is a better option than Trippier, it's far too premature to suggest he's our first choice full back.....

And a Wanyama/Dembele middle doesn't have a metronome. One of the two, please.

Pep seemed like a decent guy, so that's a poor comment to make.
Pep as a manager I rate no better than decent. Wanting to buy two players, walker and rose, from a one man team, kane, beginning to think I overestimated him as a manager.

Watching Dortmund move the ball around during the first half recently at Wembley made me think we're got quite a bit of improving to do in that regard - hopefully we'll learn from such encounters.

Don't agree we're a one man team in the slightest - we just happen to have a stellar player who will drag us through games when we aren't on point

Absolutely. Winks being back and returning to form could be very important in that regard. If he can step it up another level from last season he could have a massive impact for us already this season.

Harry has been sensational this season but even if he'd drawn a complete blank goalwise in the PL we'd still have dropped only three points more than we have to date.

Does that really make us 'The 'Harry Kane Team'?

Strikers always take the thunder of a teams form.
I think some our play yesterday was breathtaking.
Harry second left me speechless!
A very rare event!

Not entirely sure what Pep is on about tbh. This is a man who whilst at Barca, lauded the fact that it was correct to go to La Masia to find a player rather than spend £50m on an outsider. Maybe his time at Bayern and City has changed his perception after being fortunate enough to manage Barca through a golden period of youth which is unlikely to be repeated to the same level. Either way, Don't Hate - Appreciate.
