Flappy Bird

El Guepardo

Rafael Van Der Vaart
Very basic game, very frustrating but hard to put down. The game has now been pulled from the Apple store after Dong Nguyen became frustrated with the level of it's success. A level of success which was reportedly bringing in approximately $50,000 per day in advertising alone.

Now that the game has been pulled Dong Nguyen has apparently been receiving death threats on Twitter, and there's a plethora of Iphones suddenly available on Ebay, many of which are selling for heavily inflated prices.

So what do people think?

I'd imagine that the bids were fake, perhaps even to drum up interest for the game. The withdrawal of the game from the market, and the Ebay activity is almost suggestive of marketing for the game. Drum up interest, re-release and then watch the hordes of the public start downloading this free app in force. Imagine the money that could then be made through marketing! I can't imagine that anyone would really want to bid as much as $100,000 for what is really just a simple basic game, could they?

I know he claims otherwise, but I'll be amazed if it's not Nintendo behind this, they protect their copyright aggressively and those pipes are straight outta Mario, they have probably paid him off to avoid more bad publicity after the Wii U flop and with their iOS strategy on the horizon.

I managed to avoid angry birds and candycrush although I knew what they were about but this flappy bird thing I have no idea what it is.

I think Tiny Wings & Grand Theft Auto were both 'influences' too.

Grand Theft Auto used the same lettering, I believe. And Tiny Wings used a similar control in pressing the screen to alter a bird's flight.

I could be wrong but it feels like a mixture of different games, the result not living up to any of the originals.

Death threats.:ross:

I don't know what the fuss is about candy crush, flapp birds or anything else when these sorts of games have been around for years.

Anyone seen how much Flappy Bird is selling for on eBay? WTF?!?!

How can the game being installed on a phone, but not be linked to the user profile? I thought that it was held on a user profile, and so as soon as the phone is sold, either the new owner will be using the old owner's profile & iTunes account etc or the game will no longer be installed?

Or have I missed something obvious. I'm not fantastically technically minded.

you can hand the phone over, they can play flappy bird but have no access to the Apple ID (assuming password change) and it will work fine as long as they never update anything
