London Ambulance Service treat cardiac arrest during Tottenham Hotspur v Chelsea match

12:18pm Monday 30th September 2013 in News By Jaber Mohamed

A football fan in his 60s suffered a heart attack during the Tottenham Hotspur match against Chelsea at the weekend.

The London Ambulance Service was called to White Hart Lane’s north stand, in Paxton Road, just before 1pm to reports of a man who was unwell.

A single responder and ambulance crew were sent to the scene and the man, believed to be in his 60s, was treated for cardiac arrest.

Paramedics made extensive efforts to resuscitate him both at the scene and on the way to London Chest Hospital, where he was taken as a priority.

The Spurs fan is believed to still be at the hospital where he is recovering.

A Tottenham spokesman thanked fans acting quickly to call for help and clear the area so medical staff could administer CPR.

He said: “We are pleased to report that a supporter who suffered a cardiac arrest in the North Upper Tier is now recovering in the London Chest Clinic.

“Again, thank-you to fans who acted so swiftly and cleared the area allowing CPR to be administered immediately at the scene, following an excellent and prompt response from matchday medical teams and club stewards.”

World class paramedics at Spurs. =D>=D>=D>

Glad to hear he is still with us

I sit in East Upper block A, and whilst didn't have a direct view (although saw him carried on stretcher down stairs closest to me) the reaction of everyone was fantastic. The stewards were superb, people cleared the area and were standing on the concourse and some in the disabled section in the North Upper with no complaints at all. Loads of paramedics came up and it was just brilliant reaction. As he was carried out he got a standing ovation from all around, couldn't really celebrate the goal that much knowing someone was fighting for their life nearby!

Fantastic news he is okay!

I was sitting in the North Lower and heard the applause, but wasn't able to see what was happening, we suspected that it might have been a couple of Chelsea fans that had got tickets from touts and were being thrown out.

Sad to hear of someone falling ill, but pleased to hear that he's recovering
