Diary of a compulsive gambler

Type the above into YouTube. Starts on episode 1 and currently upto 26. A real insight into the fixed ****ing machines in bookies nowadays.

Sorry I can't embed but they're great to watch.

Watched the first 6. Very interesting but depressing at the same time.

Cheers southstand. They do link up and the next one is never far away. It's almost carbon copy the amounts he bets in and wins/loses are very similar to me. I'm £10k down on the machines and I'm sick and tired and have now self excluded too.

I'd definitely advise anyone to watch these if your starting out playing roulette. Hope they can help someone out there not feed these greedy ****ing machines.

Part 11 is most interesting

From what I can see, he has practically half the board covered

So effectively he's just tossing a coin and calling heads or tails

Seriously, where is the skill or even the fun in what he's doing?

At least if you're betting on horses or football matches there's an element of 'skill' to the bet

I really don't understand FOBT betting. Why does he feel so compelled to "toss a coin" in this way?

Roy, you seem to know more about FOBT than anybody on here.

Can you describe why he is betting in this way? And what possible enjoyment you can get from a seemingly 50/50 bet like this?

(I realise I have over simplified it a little, but feel free to correct me if I'm massively wrong?

Yeah he has 1-18 covered (inclusive) out of 37 numbers so he only has 48.6% of the board covered. It's just his style of betting and he has a decent amount of numbers covered. The trouble is walking away when your up. It's the quick fix you get when you win. I remember as clear as though it was yesterday, betting £100 per spin and 5 consecutive wins were

£498.60, £360.00, £498.60, £288 and £468.00. At that point I'm buzzing beyond words. I walked out with nothing.

You can bet upto £100 every 20 seconds on them or £300 a minute!

I'd guess about 45 mins. Either way....madness.

I have never played one of those roulette machines; I really don't see the attraction. I do love a game of roulette but on a table in a casino whilst sipping a JD and ogling the fit eastern european bird bending over the table to drag in the losing chips...

fudging hell lad what made you carry on? Addicted to the 'buzz' or are you just plain up greedy? Everyone likes a flutter but that just sounds dense as fudge.

My guess is the 'one more spin' which results from a combination of excitement and greed. I'm guessing that this spin lost and the idea was then to get back to where he was after the wins, except that didn't happen and with the amount that can be gambled away quickly he didn't give himself chance to think it over getting increasingly frustrated and desperate for the win but never the less continuing to push for the higher prize rather than walking out with profit and the realisation that he was still up on that particular venture.

I have just walked out of the bookies. I put £30 in to machine and thankfully walked out with £90 so decent return but I did feel the stress of potentially losing a reasonable amount just for a few presses of buttons and right before Christmas! I won Bronze Pot on Reel King.

For some reason this made me chuckle. It's like walking into a Gamblers Anonymous meeting, boasting how you just won some cash, then walking out out!

Well done for quitting while ahead though EG

Reasonable amount? I've had to stop because if I walk out £100-150 down I'm relieved!! That's nothing compared to some days when it's £3-500 even more. That's the thing though £30 IS a reasonable amount but when you are used to playing £30-£100 per spin it's peanuts which is the biggest problem of all.

Oh greedy completely. The buzz too but it's the greed of wanting more and more. It's pathetic I know.

Bingo.
