Contingency planning : If Ange is sacked, who should replace him?

Honestly, I don't know.
I'm not against any of those names (except Southgate) , I just find it difficult to see how any of them are going to fulfil the expectations of a lot our support.
That puts us back at square one in 18-24 months.
I can understand the dissatisfaction with ange and our current situation, but I can't see any manager out there who going get us where we think we should* be quickly.

* I also think the support needs to more realistic about what our level is. It's not 15th, but it's also not as high as some think it is.

For me it's a similar situation as with DL/ENIC, change is all very well, but be careful what you wish for.
The cycle of managers is just football.
It's going on at clubs up and down the country.
To some degree you 'luck out' with a manager. Whether that's because he's an up and comer or it happens to be right place right time.
Of course, at each reset you should be looking at someone you consider a good fit.
I think with the way we operate that's easier now as we appear to have settled on a model we want to follow.
Iriola would be my choice on that front.

Few clubs have ever appointed a manager that looked like a match from the off. Probably Klopp at Liverpool being the obvious one (I won't include Pep).

And i'm saying that if there is a next guy and he's not top of the league in 18 months time then nobody will be calling for him to be sacked, and claiming that people will be is inflammatory.

It immediately draws arbitary battle lines between 'fans who are patient and prepared to see the processs through' and 'knee jerkers who want immediate success', when in reality there is more sides to the debate. We're not a Top 4 side, which is obvious to everyone but we're not a 15th placed side either, injuries or not so it's pretty fair to be questioning the manager. You talk about "the expectations of a lot our support", all I've ver seen is people asking for is a cup and a promising league position.

I don't think it's inflammatory at all, and when I look at some stuff being posted on here and some of thread titles it baffles me as to why you are picking on this.
Battle lines on ange were drawn months ago.
The fans turned on nuno after 4? Months, and that's after agreeing with the previous two managers that we needed a painful rebuild.
There is a vocal section of our support that nothing will ever be good enough for.
I'm ambivalent about whether we sack or retain ange, I'm just not convinced that our support will be as happy as with his successor as they think they will be, or that those screaming for change just now won't be the same ones screaming for a new manager in months time.

Who exactly is this "vocal section of our support that nothing will ever be good enough for"?

Is it those who are shocked and annoyed with the results that have us in 15th place and have worried about how we have generally played for over a year now?

Totally agree, you luck out, it's a gamble, there's no guarantees.

Oh I don't know, the ones that couldn't wait to get the manager that got us our highest PL finishes and a CL final out of the door.
The ones that chanted against a manager after four months.

There seems to be a misreading of my posts, probably my fault.

Let me be very, very clear here I am not defending ange.
I am not happy with where we sit in the league, I am not impressed with how we are performing or with some of his decisions and although I think our injury situation has some bearing on it I do think it absolves him of his share of the blame.
What I am attempting to say (obviously poorly) is that I do think that that the solutions being offered up are as cast iron guaranteed as they are being presented.

Because what you're saying is a fabrication, and puts supporters into different classes where one is reasonable and the other is 'screaming'. It belittles any discussion about Ange's suitabilty as your're dismissing alternative opinons.

Show me where anyone has spoke about challenging for the title?

Have the ones who keep on saying we’re 15th

It’s literally mentioned in the Johnson thread
And we should aim for the title
We’re not near it yet
But that should always be the target

Honestly, so you're calling out some the personal insults on here but digging me for this?

If you haven't seen posters on here saying we should be challenging for the title then fine, but there's hundreds of posts a day on this site, I'm not trawling through them.

Would love Iraola but dont know why he would leave midseason. Levy promising him signings.
Probably 5 times the salary

Plus when you are on an ascent, you dont know when/if the next rung up job up will come against - hence the new United manager jumped, especially after us and Liverpool had passed him over

It's one thing to want a manager who is not getting us top 4 or winning the league etc to be fired and a totally different thing to ask why are we playing so poorly that we are now 15th - and have had form that befits such a position for more than a year now.

I makes ZERO sense to say anyone who questions whether our club should be in 15th place and playing so consistently poorly is the type of fan for whom "nothing will ever be good enough". I don't think i have misread this post where you said this
