Berlin - Stag Do - any advice?

Alright chaps, off to Berlin on Friday til Sunday for a Stag do. Does anyone know of any decent bars/clubs/establishments and where to avoid? Ive heard its a beautiful place but I doubt we will get to see much of the scenery. Wouldnt mind going to see the wall or what is left of it. I dont think the best man has sorted much out other than meet in a bars and get drunk.

Cheers

GGG

A lot of fun to be had in Berlin.

We had a lot of fun going to the eastern part when I was there with some friends, a lot of different types of bars, many of them a bit smaller. Really nice atmosphere, a lot of the bars had their own rather unique style that I haven't seen elsewhere and easy to go from one to the next if you don't like the one you're in. A bit of a different bar to bar round.

Although if you want the loudest music, skimpiest dressed women to hit on and overall madness that might not be quite the right place for you.

We are going to strip of bars from Kottbusser Tor in Kreuzberg towards Warschauer Strasse.

and also to a park next to Golgatha for a kickaround and beers then into local boozers and club. So not much plans really. Wanted to do the bicycle thing where you pedal and drink beer but no one was up for that.

how old are you guys and how many of you going? there's some great clubs if you're in to techno and house but probably not suitable for big groups of English tourists out on the OI OI! - Weekend bar is probably the most tourist friendly of the lot (proper club wise), if that's your thing and is situated on the 13th 14th and roof top of an office block in the city center and hosts big name dj's thursday - satuday.

there are remains of The Wall dotted throughout most of the city so you wouldn't have to go out of your way to see that

there's an alternative, free, street walking tour which is supposedly really good, didn't go on it myself but some mates did and they all raved about it.

Das Block House if you like big fat T bone steaks

^ they have a notoriously strict door policy which is almost entirely random, we went as a group of six - split in to 3's, first 3 allowed in, 20 minutes later we was turned away. reputation as the best techno club in Europe (well that's the Berghain half of the club which is only open Sunday morning) one of mates has been turned away 3 times, all on separate trips  - tbh i didn't even want to go out of principle, show me a techno rave in London which is selective to the same levels? - absolutely no need for it, but my mate was adamant we tried. went Tresor instead and had one of the best clubbing nights of my life so all was not lost.

my mates were a group of 5, 2 girls 3 lads and had no problem at all getting in

First time I went was on assignment in '88...the gig i was covering was in East Berlin, thus we had to do checkpoint charlie and all that...amazing memories...when back in west berlin, had a couple of extra nights and a friend said they were taking me to a club. cannot remember the area, it was pretty quiet (!!!) and residential. we stopped outside a tall 'house' with a big, narrow heavy wooden door. he hit a buzzer, we were buzzed in, and immediately i saw steep stairs to my left, a dancefloor deep into the heart of the ground floor in front of me, lots of black light/strobe on the floors above, and absolutely belting hardfloor techno. some serious dancing and scene-life going on, some incredible women, just agreat late night out and my first ever techno club.

Kreuzberg and the neighbouring Friedrichshain have loads and loads of bars and nightclubs. During the weekends (and even the weekdays some places) many places stay open till 7-8 in the morning. Also loads of bars and some clubs in Mitte near Rosenthaler Platz. And Neukölln/Kreuzkölln, especially Weserstrasse is nice for quieter bars. Lot of american hipsters there though, which I find particularly annoying.

As for Berghain/Panorama bar, seeing as this is a stag-do, you will not get in. It's an amazing club, but the door policy is very strict and they rarely let in groups of more than three people. I went there three times and was let in two of the times. It's really random and I've no idea why I was rejected the one time.

Just realised this had been resurrected but GGG never came back with a review... How was it GGG?

I'm on a stag do in Hamburg in a couple weeks.. Is it much different to Berlin as described above?

Amazing, one of the best stag do's I have been on.. Debauchery.

Ladies were fantastic, weather was good (July) and the clubs and bars were good. We stayed at an amazing hotel with a rooftop terrace.

Only downside was getting into the clubs, they literally turn you away for having hair, or having a nose. Walked up to this massive club with like 4 floors, was an old like factory. Didnt even have a chance to stop, just carried on walking as they said "No" as soon as I walked up there. Queued up for like an hour too.

I will try and get a picture of a woman I stopped and had a photo with, she was stunning.

Bit late now I suppose, but...

Berlin - Stag Do - any advice?

Ask them not to sing 'Take my breath away' :tumbleweed: I'll get my coat...
