Are we another Leeds Utd, Saudi Sportswashing Machine Utd?

As another disappointing result drains the life out of me I look at what we are and on how Earth we're going to turn it around.

I've supported this club for just over 20 years and what we've achieved in that time goes as follows:

Highest league finish: 4th (2010, 2012)
FA Cup: S/F (1999, 2001, 2010, 2012)
League Cup: winners (1999, 2008). Runners up (2002, 2009, 2015)
Europe: Q/F (EL 2007, CL 2011)

Pitiful.

For 6 consecutive seasons we've finished in the top 6, yet we've won nothing. We're just nearly men, nothing else.

Which begs the Q are we the 10s version of the famous Saudi Sportswashing Machine and Leeds sides of the 90s and early 00s?

Personally I think we are.

I believe in what Poch is doing, despite the frustrations and limitations of playing kids it's better than being shafted like we were with the magnificent 7. When they trip up like they did today you know it's all part of the learning curve. Above all else it's bloody brilliant watching so many from the academy get given the chance because they actually deserve it, as well know the club inside out. Unless we start winning some silverware this club will go down the same downwards slope that those two did.

The only way you can create a winning mentality is by winning some silverware, please don't embarrass yourself by trying to tell me otherwise.

Yes, we are those teams. If anything we might not even match up to them. Saudi Sportswashing Machine, if I remember rightly, had a few seasons in the Champions League as did Leeds and we've only had one.

Like Raziel says it's funny to think of how many top four finishes we would've had without Abromovich and Mansour. Probably would've been our 10th season in the Champions League right now, but that's just our luck.

Only way we can push on away from that sort of level is finishing in the Champions League for consecutive seasons and expanding our 'portfolio'. The stadium should help our chances of cracking it but even then it's still a lot to ask when you consider the spending power the top four have and the fact they all do, or will in the case of Chelsea and City, have stadiums just as big as ours soon enough anyway.

In a single word NO.

Leeds have won 2 major trophies in the last 40 years and are in the Championship, Saudi Sportswashing Machine last won a major trophy in 1969 and it's debatable whether that counts. We've had more success in the last 15 years than they ahve combined in the last 40.

Pretty much imo. All 3 clubs have owners who just see the club as a cash cow and don't have any real interest in pushing the club forward and winning things. Sad but true.

I know that but I'm talking of the Saudi Sportswashing Machine Utd of 1994 - 2005 and the Leeds Utd of 1997 - 2002. They were like us now, always in the top 6 aspiring to be in the CL but failing most seasons to do so and winning fook all in the process.

Two League cups in 23 years and people wonder why we don't have a winning mentality. Jesus.

Those periods of success were in the main all pre-Abramovich and in a period when we were happy to finish 12th. Until our owner lends us £709m over the next 6 years to build a squad to compete we won't but we sure won't disappear into the Championship like Saudi Sportswashing Machine and LUFC did.

I think people get upset to quickly, back in my day we did not even have league tables to look at till the end of October.

I like our manager he gets us playing football the right way he makes mistakes but I am convinced the only way we can improve as a club is to grow with a manager and that means sticking with him over the next few years as he improves just as we look for players to improve.

The club is going in the right direction and I am happy.

Thank you, a sane voice at last.

Couldn't have said it better.

Now you know a common sense post is not needed when its kneejerk time ;)

ENIC which is owned by levy and lewis on the most part. Please don't tell me you're naive enough to think lewis doesn't take a wage out of the club too?
