2014-15 POST Season Matches

The Malaysian media are reporting that Tottenham will play a Malaysian Selection side on May 27 in Shah Alam, Malaysia. It will be amazing if true.

IIRC, Spurs last came to Malaysia in 1979. To come back after a gap of 36 years will surely excite the local Spurs fans who have a Spurs Supporters Club.

Confirmed pre-season matches so far :
May 27 : Tottenham V Malaysia
May 30 : Tottenham V Sydney FC

Confirmed POST-season matches. Telegraph have run the same story twice now, how Poch wants us to stay in England for pre-season instead of jetting around the world. We will only fly out for individual games, then straight back.

We may not need too many pre-season friendlies, there is a good chance we could be playing in the 3rd qualifying round of the Europa League meaning a game on the 30th July/6th August. Even moreso if its an Arsenal-Liverpool Cup final

Article in the papers that say Poch has agreed to this aslong as he gets full control this summer. Which would be nice.

Can understand Pochettino's concern about playing too many matches and too far away in pre-season. I always prefer us to play strong teams to learn a thing or two from them. But hope we won't cancel any confirmed matches now, especially against national teams like Malaysia. It will spoil our name forever. The local media will slaughter any teams who show no respect to their national team regardless of how shyte they are.

Find it really surprising that Spurs are coming back to Malaysia for the first time since 1979. It must be due to the AIA connection. AIA has headquarters in Hong Kong but had been promoting the Spurs shirt all over Malaysia with giant banners in big cities and sponsoring football shows in Foxsports. But it is a pity we lack a big-name player in the mould of Klinsmann, Ginola, Bale and Modric now. Hope we will bring all our best players including Kane, Eriksen, Lloris and Chadli.

So, this would be only 3 days after we travel to play Everton, away at Goodison, in our final PL game. Pretty long trip/travel. And Malaysia are 8 hours ahead(?).

Just makes you think what type of team we will be sending

Rather play those meaning less games at the end of season, any injuries will have time to recover, and travelling when someone else is doing all the donkey work is not such problem.

Much more sensible especially in a non tournament year. Get any commercial games sorted early, no fatigue and injuries to worry about. Let Harry Kane pick up a mysterious knock that keeps him out of U21 duty, job done!

Ultras Malaya calls for boycott of Spurs, Liverpool 'circus' matches

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's upcoming fixtures against English Premier League sides Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are nothing more than "circus matches", according to a local supporters' group who have called on fans to boycott the games.

A Malaysian XI will play Spurs on May 27 and Liverpool on July 24, which has led to local top-flight matches being re-arranged to accommodate the English sides.

The Spurs match comes less than two weeks before Malaysia try to win gold at the Southeast Asian Games in June, which is followed swiftly by the start of the joint qualifying campaign for the 2018 World Cup and 2019 Asian Cup.

Alfadli Awaludin, a senior member of the Ultras Malaya supporters group, said the Premier League giants would be better off playing each other in Kuala Lumpur rather than disrupting local football.

"It is not that we hate Liverpool coming, Spurs, Arsenal or even Manchester, Barcelona or whoever coming. We don't hate them, it's just the concept is not right," he told Reuters on Wednesday.

"The timing. We should be focussed more on the more important games like the World Cup qualifiers. Why do we need to focus on something that does not give us benefit at all?

"Just imagine if three of our players are injured playing Spurs, what would happens in World Cup qualifying?"

The Selangor fan said he and many other supporters of the club had paid for flights to watch the side play against Sarawak, only for the fixture to be postponed to accommodate Liverpool's arrival.

"What happens to our tickets, do we buy a new one or pay extra to change the dates?" he said, adding the rescheduled away match had been moved to a midweek date making it harder to attend.

Fruitless matches

"Why do you put this circus match higher than your league game? It is ridiculous to me. It is not for us to follow their schedule. Is it just that they are from EPL and we have to bend down? That is an issue of pride. This is our league, we don't bend down to others," he said.

Malaysia have hosted several Premier League sides in recent years, with Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea winning back-to-back matches against a Malaysian XI in 2011, days before the country were eliminated from the World Cup by arch rivals Singapore.

With Malaysia currently 164th in the FIFA rankings, their lowest-ever position, Alfadli wants what is best for his national team.

He believes the years of matches involving a Malaysian XI bearing the national flag on their shirts against European opposition have proved fruitless.

The hashtag #SayNoToCircusGame was prominent on Twitter on Wednesday as Ultras Malaya ramped up their campaign, with Alfadli urging fans to boycott the Spurs and Liverpool fixtures.

"I don't think people will stay away. We are just sending out the message that we don't want this happening in 10 years time or 20 years time," he said. - Reuters

Spurs just can't get away from any problems or controversies, can they ? It seems some kind of issues are always associated with Spurs, even if it is not our fault this time. We don't have much fan support in Malaysia. So some fan groups just cannot understand why their national team have to play an English club like Spurs.

But there has been many adverts about this match on Malaysian TV in recent days. They have included players like Townsend, Lloris, Mason, Kane, Eriksen and Dembele in their adverts to promote this match. It is really funny looking at how Townsend and Mason speaking in broken Malay to urge fans to buy tickets for this match. I think the local fans will be looking forward to watch Kane in action, especially if he ends up as the league's top goal scorer.

Oh yeah, forgot about that! - although isn't it common in those types of deals that registration isn't transfered until the summer?

ITK :)...NOT

just back from a short meet the players session.

Townsend & Eriksen were very friendly. Tom Carroll is really shy. Harry Kane is really down to earth. Deep down, I think Lloris is leaving. told him PSG is very far..all the way in France...:)..but the grimace/grin on his face gave me the impression that he is leaving for greener pastures..Ryan Mason is covered in tattoos. most of the others were polite & sleepy. also, reminded Eriksen that Manchester is a brickhole... finally, no two ways about it, Vertoghen's demeanour is that of a natural arsehole...:)

nahhh...tickets are expensive. plus that's about the right sized support. spurs aren't that big here. most locals are Manure/Pool fans with the newer generation plastics favouring Arse, chelski & Emirates Marketing Project.
