Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Haha - 34, so just a couple of years older than you, mate. ;) Likewise, I'm going to hit that mark myself in a couple of years - I was 18 when we won that Carling Cup, and will be 36 having seen us win absolutely f*ck all since. Christ, that's a thought. Hadn't considered it that way. Yeesh. :p

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

It doesn't matter mate. That passes quickly because there's too many 'what ifs' to really keep that patter going. *If* we had beaten City, Villa would be more up for their game v Palace, etc. Fact is the best case scenario would have seen us 3 points behind Villa heading into the final game -...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

To an extent, yeah. Not particularly surprising or underhanded - all managers do it to distract from poor results and keep the pressure off the players. But I don't think it was the case here (or if it was, it was poorly thought through) because it has backfired on him as the fans point out...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

To be fair, doubt anyone has forgotten. That's what is confusing about this outburst from Ange. If he was blaming the fans for this loss as a way to distract from the fact that we've lost yet again, the 5th loss in the last 6...then it only works until people point out that the fans weren't the...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

This is pretty much me as well. I actually value the fact that folks like @parklane1 et al have seen us actually win things, because outside of one moment of sheer happiness in 2008, I never have. My entire life as a Spurs fan has been watching us be the constant failures, bridesmaids, and...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

That's a given - Pep is always very complimentary about the teams he usually beats, and we're now an addition to that list. Seriously - he'll praise the opposition as being incredible after City murder them 5-0. It almost comes across as condescending. Whereas, up until Ange, we'd never lost...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Eh. I think there was enough encouragement at 0-0, because winning would have meant something. When we went 1-0 down, drawing would have been the worst outcome so there was some hesitancy. At 2-0 the tension was gone. To me it seemed like relief more than anything.

It is exactly the same mate. In both cases, it's rejecting the idea of winning at any and all cost. Some things are more important, both to Ange and to the fans. Which is fair. But then, you cannot have double standards about it imo - when I decide to sacrifice short term results for long-term...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

@thfcsteff , dunno where your post went mate, but one thing you said interests me. You say that we shouldn't imply that he doesn't want to win games of football. The problem with that is, he has said exactly this, himself, multiple times. Remember when he said we could win without playing well...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Postecoglou *is* a media savvy trumper, whatever that means. It's just that people are noticing his hypocrisy a little bit. When we limply lost the previous 4 out of 5 games, his line was that the result wasn't as important as playing the way he wanted us to. He further embellished this by...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

I think he's right that the club doesn't have a winning mentality. He isn't the first to say it, nor will he be the last. Before him, Conte said it too. Poch before him. But Conte put the blame precisely where it needed to be put - '20 years here the owner, and they win nothing'. Ange seems to...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

He's the one that seems unable to handle reality. The simple fact is that he put the club in a situation where fans had no choice but to choose the least-worst option. Blaming us for doing that is deflecting from the reality that his team, coached by him, put us in that situation by constantly...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

He isn't wrong, but he is also responsible for putting us in the position where we had two unappealing options. If we'd won at home against Arsenal, or weren't in a run of 3 points from 18, maybe we wouldn't have had to choose between CL and the Goons winning the league. If the club needs a...

I also personally think the Lo Celso situation has been odd all season. He's looked good when he's played, but the instant Maddison is back, he plays no matter how dogbrick he is while Lo Celso gets almost no time at all, despite regularly looking more dangerous than Maddison has done in months...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Interesting tack from him post-game, angrily saying the 'last 48 hours have shown [him] that the foundations are fragile', and saying it 'wasn't our usual home atmosphere', etc. Feels like he's angry we're not bothered by the loss all that much. Which is totally fair on the one hand, and good...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Not entirely. The recent form is just our results catching up to our performances - we haven't performed well in a whole game since 2023. I think the recent rise in doubts about Postecoglou is because what is happening is the inverse of what instinctively should be happening - you would expect...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

On the recent traditions of winning, I'd disagree in the case of Liverpool. At the time Klopp took over in late 2015, the most recent trophy Liverpool had won was the Carling Cup in March 2012, over 3 years ago. Arsenal, maybe. As for Klopp and Arteta having pedigrees, I agree. It's why, as I...

Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

It's fair to an extent, but also remember the context that stat leaves out. In the same time frame: * Arteta won the FA Cup despite coming in mid-season. * Klopp took Liverpool to both the Carling Cup and Europa League finals while coming in mid-season. Postecoglou dropped out of both trophies...

    Ange’s system / formation

I know they do. Their fans are a bunch of troglodyte gobbricks on the whole - sorry you had to go through that experience mate.
