I think the dilemma with Richi has always been whether he's a striker or a left forward. For me, he's unfortunately not ticking either box nowadays whereas when he was at Watford and Everton I thought he was a real nuisance on the left. He certainly doesn't look a stylistic fit for what we need...

*** The official 2025/26 Premier League thread ***

Haven't read every post for the last few days but has anyone celebrated matching last season's PL total with 2 games to spare? One more point and we're having a better season. That could mean that we have a trend that is in the right direction. We keep doing that and eventually we will win the...

As a fan, you certainly feel in the dark about it. I'm not even sure whether he gets full pre-season training and can play in any pre-season games.

Lol - Levy would have added some lines to his spreadsheet about it.

lol - I do as it goes. My proposal is still very surgical when you think about it. It just introduces a chance for players to be level using technology as the guide but factoring in an average human body width. Well I mean an athlete's body, not people like myself. I'd need more than 50cm...

But the precedent was set with those laws for decades on what level meant. You have to admit it has changed recently because and only because of the VAR tech. I can remember when people used to use the words "fresh air". If there wasn't fresh air between defender and forward then it was level...

The goal that was overturned at the end? Good luck to West Ham with that. They won't have the laws on their side in that debate. The only argument will be PGMOL's inconsistency on their treatment of such decisions. They will have a point on that one and can gather evidence of the inconsistency...

I could well be wrong, and they may have changed it based on the VAR fiasco. I googled "football laws onside definition" and got this In association football (soccer), a player is considered onside—and therefore in a legal position to play or receive the ball—if they are not in an offside...

I wonder if the tide is turning actually. Spurs fans reaction to both Kinsky and Tel has been one of getting behind the guys. RDZ seems to be the one driving a change in this area in his own comms. In the eyes of fans, the most important thing for a footballer to do is to cross the white-line...

Level is onside based on the actual laws of the game and 1cm offside surgically is therefore actually onside based on the laws. Therefore you could build a case that the naked eye is more accurate than VAR based on the actual laws. It's a moot point as with the adjustment, we could let 2 things...

Football is a marketplace not a dictatorship. England should drive the changes locally and push them up. You don't seek permission in these situations and ultimately FIFA work for the country FA's. The country FA's work for the clubs. The clubs work for the supporters and the TV subscribers. I...

I think I'm trying to bring it back to the spirit of the game and the naked eye. I don't want every fan and player to have to reprogram themselves. We were absolutely fine with using our eyes as fans in stadia and judging when players were level or offside. We were fine with strikers playing off...

I think the difference is that Tel has already been punished for it. He should have headed it, decided to try the spectacular and cost his team a penalty. That is all the punishment a football players needs. He'll feel bad enough. Now he needs love. I absolutely don't feel the same about Howard...

I think you just draw the 2 VAR lines and if it is 50cm (pick a number) or less then it is level. After all the laws of the game say level is onside. VAR has removed the ability to have level as onside. This should have been implemented from the start in my opinion.

It's an interesting concept. One difference I often explain between football and rugby is substitutions. In rugby one player gets off the pitch quickly but the one that enters needs to be seen to be making an effort to get into position. If they don't then the game continues and it could cost...

Which changes by the way if we start putting the laws of the game in the middle of this topic at every level. Everything hangs off it, and the system if broken because there is no desire to make it the most important thing, especially the refs. The commentators are just as bad, and the players...

Ah, I get it This is the fox watching over the hen house way of measuring yourself. Refs don't make 5 errors per game if you know the laws of the game. They make absolutely tons of them. Mike Riley came up with these KPIs when he had the job before Webb. There was a load of push back then and...

Did you make up the 98%? In my mind referees measured on the laws of the game would put them at maximum 80%. If the denominator was the laws and the numerator was the referees getting the match to adhere to them, can you imagine what score they would come up. Every match I see referee's turning...

Problem is you have different types of human beings. You can just tell by the PGMOL selection process that they aren't picking the right characters for the job in hand. We've had so many arrogant, egotistical, attention seeking pricks being selected in these roles that nobody should be surprised...
