wow - that one had disappeared from my memory banks.

I think it depends how you look at it. They're mostly all squad fillers and there was always that bad taste left because we didn't buy higher quality. When I look through that list I see Friedel, Naybet, Gallas, Parker and Davids that were 1st team regulars for a short period of our history...

    Andy Robertson

I went to Donetsk in 2012 for the Euro's. What tended to happen with the older Parker was that he came out the blocks at the start of the season and was all action. In the second half of the season he was way more reserved and couldn't do much apart from doing his famous pirouettes in the centre...

There is also a world where Spurs are going to be accused of buying quantity over quality again. I dream of a January window where we only buy one player and their name is Andersen, Wharton or Rogers.

How can this be true? They said we have 7 out of our 9 midfielders injured. We have Biss, Sarr, Gallagher, Gray and perhaps Palhinha fit tomorrow. Xavi is recovering but playing. I guess their 7 are Madds, Kulu, Bents. Palhinha, Bergval, Simons, Kudus. If they've included Kudus whey don't...

    Mathys Tel

I assume you're talking about the left wide forward role? That's the only one where there is a case for Tel because he's more likely to score. Odobert is probably more likely to assist though. I do need to watch more of them though.

    Andy Robertson

I think one Robbo factor is that his stats may have reduced year on year and there are no recent major injuries of note that would be the root cause. Therefore the root cause can only be age. He has put in a massive shift in his career.

I think you would probably see then that some people are not just using xG(A) as a data point in the bigger equation. Some people are making xG(A) the bible that all arguments are formed from. It's no doubt a phase that the football world will pass through like all the others.

    Mathys Tel

Yeah, sort of agree with that. I'd probably throw Odo in the same bucket as Tel as well. Where my head is at though is as much to do with Muani. I'm frustrated that these 4 lads are giving us such a great attitude and work rate and he is often getting selected ahead of the 2 of them. We all...

    Andy Robertson

I don't think it is resale value but can see why that's the label that has been given. The way I think about it is more about the balance sheet value. Robbo is in his last 6 months of contract at Pool. He's running his contract down to become a free agent in the summer. Therefore his transfer...

    Mathys Tel

I think he will start but I also agree that he should be very unhappy if he doesn't. The timing would be interesting as well with a week to go in the transfer market.

    Andy Robertson

The big question mark is whether Robbo has adjusted his games based on his age. If in his head he thinks he can still be up and down all the time then we won't see great performances from him. In that scenario we might see some great moments, and other moments where other players need to cover...

    Transfer thread

Here's the challenge. At 28, why would Henry sign an 18 month deals when other clubs would offer him a 3-4 year deal? Personally, I think we'd need to offer him a 3 1/2 year deal to get him interested.

    Transfer thread

The voice of reason. There was a clear reason why Pool bought Kirkez. Robertson wants to play and I'm not sure that he gets in ahead of Udogie. If we're going for an older head then go with Rico Henry. He's 28 and out of contract in June. That's the age you need if you already have 2 young...

And to me it is progress, because when you sort the defence that is when magic happens in attack. Take Poch for example: 14/15 For 58 Against 53 (5th) 15/16 For 69 Against 39 (3rd) 16/17 For 86 Against 26 (2nd) In this example the "goals against" halves and the "goals for" grows by 50%. In...

Yeah, it's a great call. The only thing I don't know is what (or can remember from playing days) is what the cycle of recovery looks like. I do remember a phase where the ankle looks a whole lot worse than it actually is. That is where the bruising colouration drops but the swelling is still...

All I remember is how tight they were at the back last season in the Championship. Didn't they set records for clean sheets / goals conceded etc? I bet the PL has been a rude awakening though.

Agreed, and to me the available squad looks balanced. There should be enough players in each position to create some competition for places and therefore performances. Perhaps the exception is Xavi where it would be great to have Kulu back in the mix. Then there is the unknown quantity in Souza...
