    Bundesliga Bonestroker Thread

I think Dortmund might have enjoyed that. Alonso deciding to stay at Leverkusen is an interesting move. His statement that it s a good place for a young coach makes a lot of sense, but what other considerations were there? Following a legend in Klopp, Real Madrid in a couple of years?

Leverkusen win again, coming back with goals in 89th and 91st minutes. They lead by 13pts with 7 games to go. Bayern have a game in hand, tonight against Dortmund.

    Cheatski are still scum

I agree you shouldn't do a table on expected goals, as you need to take the chances, which better strikers do. In January, Son Heung-min had 12 goals from a 7.12xG, being +4.88, while Calvert-Lewin had 3 goals from a 6.92xG, being -3.92. Chelsea have two of the top four underperformers...

    Cheatski are still scum

They should be fourth based on expected goals, but that just means they would probably be fourth if their strikers were good enough. With all the use of statistics in recruitment these days, perhaps the stats mean they recruit players suited to creating expected goals and overlook the need to...

Victimpool FC - Klopp leaving, grown men crying

That was one of his best seasons, nursing that squad to the title. He managed to disguise the changes needed. All the talk about Alonso being interested in his former clubs, Bayern and Liverpool, ignore the fact that he played more games for Real Madrid. Two more seasons at Leverkusen and then...

Victimpool FC - Klopp leaving, grown men crying

So Alonso is staying at Bayer Leverkusen, effectively turning down both Bayern and Liverpool. He makes a lot of sense when he says its the right place for a young coach. He can establish a great legacy at Leverkusen and then he will have plenty of choices. There is also the consideration that...

The Official 2023/24 Premier League Thread

It's a bit of perfection that the relegation depends on ongoing penalty decisions and appeals. Everton would be in the relegation zone now because of their initial penalty but the successful appeal lifted them out and a further penalty could drop them in again. Forest are now in the bottom three...

    FA Cup 23/24

Sterling again. :) I think the VAR decision was double jeopardy. I thought they decided a few years ago that a penalty and red card was too harsh, so the fair result is yellow if penalty, but red if foul cynically stops a goal scoring opportunity outside the box. I

Brilliant back pass, although maybe the goalkeeper deserves more blame.

Sterling. :p Edit. Although he does get an assist immediately after I posted that. Perhaps it was a shot.

    The Stats Thread

A crazy statistic on offsides in this seasons PL. Erling Haaland has only been caught offside once. 186 players have been caught offside more than him, including seven teammates. 25 Darwin Núñez (Liverpool) 23 Nicolas Jackson (Chelsea) 2 18 Jarrod Bowen (West Ham United), Anthony Elanga...

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2024/03/07/chelsea-reveal-90m-annual-loss-doubts-grow-psr-rules/ So Chelsea may need to sell a few players before the new financial year. They won't want to repeat the mistake Everton made with Richarlison.

How do you rank English clubs in size

Man United Liverpool Arsenal Chelsea Everton Aston Villa Emirates Marketing Project (undoped) Saudi Sportswashing Machine West Ham I'm not going to place Spurs (too biased) or the doped Emirates Marketing Project (too soon to evaluate, cf. 115 charges). How do you rank English clubs in size

Sunderland were known as the Bank of England club after WWII (not that it bought them titles). But it seems they were not the first so labelled. It was used for Arsenal, Everton, Aston Villa and Blackpool in the 1930s. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bank_of_England_club
