Yes. Tbf the whole team struggled to deal with Brentford’s movement and we were often looking around trying to figure out who to mark rather than it being instinctive. That lost second always keeps you behind the play at this level (and credit where it’s due Brentford were excellent in their cohesiveness).

But he consistently shows the desire and application to learn and improve so I will continue to back him.

No silly long journeys
Added to what they already had
And player to the strengths of the squad
Knowing them they already know who they will sign to replace their new man

I posted in the match thread they are my surprise team for this season. They have…
- managerial continuity from last season
- a difference-maker at CF
- a good home record
- no European football
- an midfield upgrade from Henderson to Sangare.

While we were admittedly way off the pace on Saturday, they do strike me as the team most capable of pushing for a CL/EL spot outside of the usual candidates.

It begs a deeper question as to whether Sonny would've been able to develop into, err, Sonny in this specific era?

They will be up there
Leeds will be too
They have made some very solid signings
Both these two will be annoying all the sides this season imo
Very side in Europe apart from arsenal will have some real blips because nine have the depth imo
That opens up loads of opprtunity

Yep. Spot on.

I think Utd will slip badly as they have very little depth for a club of their size.

But also Sunderland, Brighton, Bournemouth, Villa even pool
Issue for us now

Is that as the team not in Europe our games will be moved more for tv

But considering we were playing a secind side Championship side, what exactly did you see from him to come to that conclusion?

I would love for him to be successful but, other than very occasional flashes, after more than 18 months have seen nothing from him to convince me he will be a success.

Reminds me of Rebrov... came with high expectations and had occasional outstanding moments but was pretty average otherwise. He too had passionate defenders until they had no more defence to put forward...
 
Not his greatest game, but I still think he gets evaluated when Savio/Kudus is on other side (opposition will not have ability to double up on him, he should have more space)

Right now, he keeps possession, he has a decent shot, has a very sneaky pass into box (seen it a couple of times in preseason, the one to Gray yesterday was filthy), can get to the outside and past his man, just not consistently enough. Feels he sits on the ball a bit before deciding if to pass/take on his man, needs to be faster in the decision making.

Realistically, he probably has until Kudus/Deki is match fit to prove his worth, otherwise he'll be an impact sub (not a bad thing, but probably he won't go for it long term)

I'm concerned that against a reserve Charlton FB that looked his level. He didn't impress, he didn't roast him, they looked very comparable in quality and I would way their FB got the better of the exchanges generally (the pass was very nice, if I saw more of that it would mitigate his other weaknesses). It feels like he gets graded in a curve rather the reality of how he's actually performing and even relative to others. Moore has the same limitation of only have Tel on the opposite side yet he roasted his FB and even against Brentford got 3 goal scoring chances. It feels like the analysis of these players is a bit unbalanced imo.

Two of Moore’s chances against Brentford came from good work down our left side involving Tel. And Moore didn’t regularly beat his man last night but had several crosses go nowhere if they weren’t blocked by his marker.

Tel did beat his man a few times last night but it wasn’t his best performance by any stretch. However, our attack hasn’t looked cohesive at all through two games, whether it’s Moore or Tel, but both have kept going at their defender and trying to push the team higher. Neither are starting options in a Top 6 team as they need work on their final ball but both have exciting futures.

Stats match what I remember, Tel beat his man once. Tbh I don't have a problem with his performance as much as I feel like I'm being gaslit when people are saying he had a decent performance. I wouldn't go as far as to say he was rubbish but against a Charlton reserve FB we need to be expecting more than him beating said FB once in the entire match and having basically 0nimpqct offensively.

I don't think Moore is ready either but he's actually having an impact in an offensive sense even if his readiness is questionable. Tel not being able to impress even against Charlton should be concerning for everyone. Especially when Moore did much better.
