Sunday League Dreams (thread for those still playing football)

Who’s still playing?
Yeah love it, should play until you're unfit to IMO if you like playing.

Ten years ago my Brentwood Sunday League team won a competition sponsored by Nivea. This meant a seasons coaching with two FA coaches and a few sessions with Ray Wilkins, Clemence and Terry Venables.

We then played a game against an 'England legends' team, the likes of Parlour, Winterburn, Rob Lee etc at Dagenham and Redbridge stadium - was so cool. We won 2-1 and I scored with Ian Walker in goal :D Kind of disappointed he didn't put in a word for me at Spurs but there we go....

Sunday I played my 2250th game of 11 a side football. Started keeping track of it as a kid and kept it going on a master excel sheet. Last minute goal secured a 2-2 draw in a game we shoukd have won comfortably.

Have you disproved the 500 game rule though, or did you get brick ages ago?!

What’s that?
There's a theory that players only have 500 high level games in them before their legs/body starts to pack up. So players that breakthrough young, like say Eriksen did or Vuskovic has, might not play into their 30s, whereas late bloomers may have more of a chance

It was in the context of Robertson being well over 500 games, but Sensei being well under it

About 3/4 of the games will have been as a keeper so not to many miles on the clock.

I can believe that, I took a few years off in my early 20's and now at nearly 50 I'm still fudging awesome

I actually did similiar. Missed a lot of my early 20s through injuries. But theb definitely better in late 30s than was in late 20s

I think to be honest I'm better now because I've been coaching for a few years, decision making is different, play a lot more percentages, never had pace to lose either.
