Cristian Romero

Romero would’ve got a straight red from the ref had he made the foul on Doku that Keane did for Evefton against City. Had the ref not red carded him then VAR would’ve sent him to the monitor.

Think that’s more to do with RDZ than Romero tbf
That’s fair but when has he not been a bit of a liability under whoever has been in charge. Don’t doubt his ability but his mentality is very questionable. I completely get his frustrations and social media posts that dog the club out, after all he’s not said anything that most disagree with.

However his on the field antics don’t always fill me with confidence, he is rash and doesn’t always focus. His ability however is not in question here. I just think he’s a bit decisive and doesn’t lead by example all the time. Danso is so much more composed and is performing better on the pitch.

Danso plays within his limitations, Romero can/will do anything.

In a relegation battle when you are asking your defenders to stay compact, put their bodies on the line, mop up every ball in the air or second ball, Danso is a better fit (and it's showing)

In a team playing its best, dominating games and asking the defenders to contribute to the attack/passing, Romero is a step above.

I agree but when you way it up you have one player in Danso who is reliable, rarely messes up and is limited in his ability outside of being a good defender. On the other hand you have an elite defender who is liable to cost you a goal and equally get sent off, or set up or score a goal. Risk over reward.

I’d argue why take the risk? He breaks up the relationship with VDV by either being injured or being suspended. Danso is competent and reliable. But yes of course he will need competition.

Furthermore I think Romero is quite a decisive character and doesn’t set the right tone for captain, especially when he’s injured one week and then on a flight to play a friendly for Argentina.

We can get good money for him and is replaceable.

Romero was absolute quality and dependable under Ange. He needs a strong figure to keep him in check…like, say, RDZ.

However, if the Senesi rumors are to be believed, then it would make sense to move him on at his prime age and market value. 60mil, nothing less.

That just tells me that he chooses when to play and when not to. He got 3 red cards playing under Ange.

I just think he’s an overrated asset that will probably excel under Simeone playing in Spain under a legend from Argentina. Then people will say that we should never have let him go etc … but I will say that it was completely understandable and obvious.

I think it will be sad to see him go and not see what he could do in an organised REZ team, which he’d be really good in I would say.

I do however think he’s been a bad captain and has set bad examples in terms of discipline and excuse making. I’m sure he thinks he’s sticking up for the players by having a go at the board, and most probably agreed with him…it’s just not captain behaviour. The job is to keep the players focused and locked in on the pitch. He hasn’t done that. And he’s not been available enough himself.

We need to bring in some money from sales and for PSR reasons it is better for us to do that by selling players that we make a good net book profit on. As Romero seems to want to go to Spain we can probably also do a deal with his agent where we don't have to pay the full amount of his remaining loyalty bonus installments.

I suspect we'll get around £50m for him, which is a decent chunk and, if we stay in the PL, we can probably bring in Senesi on a free transfer with him earning a wage similar to Romero's. If we go down then we can instead make do with Phillips, who has proven himself in the Championship.

I think Romero, Dragusin and Vicario are certain departures this summer, probably also Sarr - and that's whether we go up or stay down.... That's likely around £110-£120m in transfer fees, which either plugs a decent sized revenue hole if we're in the championship or gives us a decent start in terms of a transfer budget if we remain in the PL.

I agree with a lot of that, and maybe I should have been more specific. He was dependable under Ange after the red card against Cheat$ki.

I also think RDZ could be the guy that really unlocks the best from him on a weekly basis. Romero is the type who respects strength, but will go rogue if allowed to. RDZ will shut that down at the first sign of it happening.

But as long as we received 60 mil, I’d be ok with him leaving. Danso is a very capable replacement, as would be Senesi on a free.
