Wouldn't dismiss his contribution of late no matter how limited a player he might seem to some. His pressing has made a good impact on the side, we've won possession back more frequently because of it. Him and Bentancur and to a lesser degree Bissouma have found a good combination allowing us to be more on the front foot.

As THFCStef mentioned on this weeks’ podcast about his conversation with SAF years back…

You buy the player for what he does do, and not what he doesn’t do.

An industrious box-to-box midfielder no doubt but considering the many gaping deficiencies in our threadbare squad we might’ve been better off keeping Hojbjerg and investing that £40m on a left-footed player to cover for Udogie or a forward who shows more sign of fighting for our cause than loanee Muani…

I think it’s pretty clear it’s not about squad building or planning or strategic moves to cover a certain position.

Both our January signings were essentially the chuckle brothers seeing assets that they could invest into that they thought were low prices and would therefore not depreciate.

I’m certain that is 90% of the remit when discussing buys. Whether or not the player fits what we need and actually has the required skillset is pretty low down.

Yup, it’s another one of those “too good a bargain to turn down” decisions like when ENIC decided that Lo Celso and Vicario were better value for money than Fernandes and Raya… Penny wise, pound poor as Bullet said 💸

If we go down then the tens of £millions they saved on these transfers shall seem like a drop in the ocean compared to the hundreds of £millions we’ll miss out on next season… plus a similar sum from continually failing to get back into the Top 4 CL spots over the past decade.

Surely they will learn from that in future seasons....(Said firmly tongue in cheek). Kane and Son covered up the 'strategy' for years. We (they) were lucky they didn't move on sooner.
