I think it started out well with people who were genuinely completely oblivious to certain genres and it really was lovely seeing people lighting up to something completely new but agree it's a bit silly now.

Yeah, it was great in the beginning when people obviously came in fresh and didn't react just to react, but had genuine reactions to something that gripped them. Not saying these people here aren't necessarily authentically moved by the music, but it often feels a bit "people expect me to react so I'm gonna do it right" about it.

I watched the Kanye West documentary on Netflix last night and have had Through the wire on my mind since. Call him crazy all you want, but he's a musical genius in my book.

This is just beautiful, the journey from picking apart Rens guitar playing from a classically trained perspective to fudge it who cares this is important art, it's so cool.

There's very rarely something as mind blowing as Hi Ren to 'react' to.

The thing I dislike about the whole 'reaction' layer is it just feels like a piggy backing exercise...a trickle down of someone else's popularity, just to get likes, views etc and that is ultimately born out of the longing to get monetized by YouTube.

I have trouble with things I don't find sincere and also don't add any value.

Of course some of the artists (especially independent) are more than ok with it as it spreads their work to the masses.

I went down a rabbit hole after seeing this and some of the guys in this compilation have some pretty good videos reacting to Rage songs and breaking down the lyrics & meanings etc

Works well with Rage given the context of the lyrics and the fact their music absoloutely slaps

Edit : just me then 😪
