For me, the biggest and most single thing that Frank needed to focus on was how he could fix the leaks at the back. We had 3 seasons of conceding over 60 goals a season in the PL and that takes a long term toll on any football squad. I know as Spurs fans we want to talk about the other end as that is the "Spurs way" but it really isn't as important as building the strong foundations at the back. When Frank says things like losing possession 25 times more than we should and therefore introducing defensive risk, everyone jumps on him. Perhaps he should have just said "Yeah mate, that's the Spurs way" and been idolised by some.

That is not the way I think. I'm just happy to build more data points and learn more and more about the guy's abilities over this season.

I think making excuses for Frank are not right
Playing once a week
Players injured
Doesn’t have the right players
We will be brave
Go back and check Nunos comments mate… scarily similar
Classic excuses for failing
Maybe he shouldn’t say the fans are part of the problem (publicly)
Or we won’t win a volume of games
Or we finished 17th without contextualising why he is playing twice a week
For a smart guy he says dumb things
it’s made me question his actual intelligence
Do you know what Poch did smartly… he said nothing and let his football do the talkings bud actually got lucky

We shouldn't make excuses for any manager. Just evaluate them on what you can see not imaginary scenarios to make things fit better.

I know you don't want him as manager here anymore but you are just becoming relentless with all this now and this part is just ridiculous. You seem to be over analysing absolutely everything about the guy to tear him down.

Mate its not personal, its not about putting you on ignore, so lets not throw toys out the pram and get narked.

You are making 1000s of posts a day about Frank, its a right of reply and I am just saying, its relentless and I think the whole "questioning his intelligence" is a laughable observation.

I honestly think you, in some place adding more negative theories in on Frank to add nails to his coffin.

I have been vocal about a lot of the under par performances but will not come to any definitive conclusions until season end - Personally he just fails to inspire me, but that can be subject to change.

Managers don't work for a number of reasons, in many cases it's about timing or just generally not being the right fit for a specific club. He's an intelligent guy for sure and a good manager, you don't do what you did with Brentford and not be. I'd place him in the same bracket as Potter, another manager who did a good job at a 'lesser' club and is an intelligent guy who clearly knows his football but didn't translate at a bigger club with different requirements and pressures.

If Frank doesn't work out here it's not a reflection on him, maybe more so the club or no one at all - just how it works out sometimes. But rest assured Frank will do a good job at another football club if not ours....

Timing and luck are two massive things
Slot timed it well not joining us
Poch got lucky with the talent he inherited suiting his game
 
For me, I couldn’t watch us last season without getting angry, not only about what we were doing, but what we were trying to do, and more importantly what we refused to do.

The results are in the same envelope but I can watch us now, we have a grown up in charge, and it’s still going to take time.

I really think we are not far of clicking, and as (I think) @Muttley says above, the improvements defensively are clear to see, even in games where we have conceded multiple goals.

I’m amazed that some have gone so early on Frank.

So you think that excuses are necessary depending on context? So in that case you don't actually agree that coaches shouldn't be given excuses.

You think they should be if the context suits your view.

That's not what I said, I said we shouldn't make excuses for them period.

It’s a funny one because, as you’ve probably noticed, I’m a very critical person and have very exacting standards, but I just can’t evaluate until at least a season has passed. I actually simply can’t really judge, even as much as I try, but I know from the very first game of next season I’ll have my view. It’s weird — I take a long time to come to an opinion, but once I do it’s fairly set, probably in part because I do take my time.

With all of that said, I don’t know what to think about Frank’s ultimate suitability as yet; it’s just still too early for those views to have formed in my brain. I don’t actually have any issues with those who don’t think he’s the right person for the job — they may well just be on a more accelerated analysis than I’m capable of. I think I find myself mainly commenting due to the hypocrisy I see (not from you obviously, you’re very fair and balanced), and also my premise that no matter what, we just aren’t particularly good (as you know, I’ve been saying for fudging ages).

Anyway, I’m just happy to see the journey, and hopefully Frank convinces — but if he doesn’t, I have no emotional attachment to him.

You're a bit all over the place as you have multiple times mentioned the past, specifically in comparison to now. So do you want to move forward or is the past relevant or again is it only when the context that suits your view? 🤣

i am not sold on Romero at all. Individually, yeah, but as part of a "solid defence", nah.

You know why? He's unpredictable. I bet Vicario, his CB partner and the full backs are unsure of what he's gonna do in any situation. Is he gonna dive in? Is he gonna have a petulant kick out? Is he gonna back off?

For me defence more than anything is about the unit and you need players able to work in a unit and subdue their egos and random instincts. Only exception to that is a ridiculous attacker like Cristiano Ronaldo. You can tolerate his ego and the fact he might just stand with his hands on his hips looking at the sky after habing a shot blocked as you get countered....

Its like if i was a gooner my all time XI would just have that 90s back 4 and Seaman. Not because there weren't better individuals over the years, but as a unit, was nigh on impregnable.

Yes, he could certainly play.
Look at the quality of movement ahead of him; Dele, Sonny, Kane to name the main...I still think Romero is a better on the ball player. Pure defending? Toby was very solid, in a set-up designed to be he was great.
BTW, I have not forgotten anything about the Poch era. I appreciate this is a tough moment for people to see positives in Romero. I disagree with your definitive viewpoint FWIW.
