Yeah I'm not arguing huge martinez fan in terms of him being a spurs manager but to keep wigan in the PL for 2 seasons and win them the cup and then finish 5th with a sh*rehouse Everton squad the next year shows that he is a competent coach at this level.
 
Just want Ange to go out on a high - lifting the Europa Cup. He's not a bad manager. And if it wasn't for the school-yard press and its lack of sophistication, I would give him more time. He has got us passing and attacking in a way that I've not seen us play before. His system pushes what is possible to the limit, and I like that, and given time and refinment there is potential for this to pay dividends. Today for example, if we refined our play and didn't make errors, then we'd have won easily. But we're constantly fighting an uphill battle, especially when we conceed first. We have a lot of young players, and an unsettled side too.

We all know Ange isn't going to be here next season. He knows it too. How awesome would it be if he stepped away on a high, as the most successful Spurs manager of modern history? It is unlikely as his authority is undermined and we ship goals, but IS possible. The players are still playing for him, and I am sure they would love to give him a send-off by winning the EL.

Really? Based on what? I'm not one to say he's a complete incompetent fool, his merits show that he isn't, but he's very clearly not going to succeed with us (unless we somehow manage to pull off a bit of a miracle in the EL). I wouldn't be surprised if he went to a different team in the PL and somehow made it work there (though I don't really think so), but that he would get it right next year if he were to stay? I'd say there is very very little evidence to that effect. I don't know what he would need to get it right here - we just look a mess, week in week out, and we've done so for a very long time.

It really is amazing that people still cling on to something with Ange. No other manager that I can remember has been given this much patience and had so much blind hope attached to them.

I didn't want Ange, because there was nothing in his track record to say he could manage successfully at this level. He was essentially a veteran journeyman of a manager that was hitting his 60s having never managed outside of Australia or Asia other than a short stint at Celtic in the SPL, where his European record was poor despite him being able to continue their domestic domination.

He's subsequently.(having been given the chance) shown no evidence of my instincts being wrong. The injuries (that have been.a thing at most clubs he's managed and which he himself says are a byproduct of the way he plays and trains) have been crippling at times in both of his seasons and form since the middish point of last season being inconsistent to shocking.

Not only that, but some of his media interviews and behaviour (picking fights with fans) have been woeful and unprofessional.

There's literally zero evidence of this guy being able to cut it at this level, yet there's still some who think, if given time, he could deliver success...

That first season at Everton is the whole point. That was Moyes's defence. After a sufficient time with no proper defensive coaching had passed they were turning to brick.

Aye, but both Harry and Poch's teams passed well, entertained and won games. For all the bluster and Ange's play style we're not playing better football than either of the earlier teams.

There's nothing special about what Ange is trying to do. I've avidly watched many European leagues over the years, its not revolutionary it's just another approach but one he's been unsuccessful at implementing.

The massive difference is we actually had a chance of winning that competition with a far superior and astute manager.

I don’t think either of those sides passed the ball particularly well. And they had Bale and Kane.

It’s a similar setup to City - one of the most successful teams of the modern era.

Not a bad manager - has win trophies in all his jobs. Great motivator and psychologist. Also has a philosophy and principles. That it has t clicked together with us doesn’t mean it isn’t there. The biggest annoyance from me is the press. It is t sophisticated enough. Leaves us exposed and our forwards shagged. But Ange likes to play one way - which I respect as it keep things clear for players. Mid season he’s not going to change and this way of playing does work. The press was similar with Poch - whose results dropped off when he tried to evolve away from pressing all game.

As for pushing what is possible to the limit: isn’t that what makes all successful winning sports teams and individuals! Why wouldn’t you want that!?

It is amazing that we are 1-1 on aggregate against Frankfurt but I have already lost any and all enthusiasm for our season because I can’t see us winning the Europa. I don’t think we have the equality too

I’ve seen us through bad runs before and still had that hope

Maybe it’s a reflection of where we are at. Or maybe I am just old‍!

Unless anyone is ready to accept that overall our squad (taking into account injuries) is no better than 15th place

If you believe our squad can be/should be better than that then you have to want Ange out. Otherwise we have one heck of a rebuild and should be actively transfer listing every player at the club

I wouldn’t be so arrogant as to say that our squad entitles us to a top 8 finish. But your damn right I believe this current squad is better than 15th.
