Brennan Johnson

Richarlison, Werner and Bissouma would be the first ones I’d get rid of. The midfield is pretty average and we need a standout player as we currently have a lot of 6/10 players. Same goes for the forwards, including Johnson. Not saying I’d sell him but I’d definitely look to upgrade him in the summer and then it’s up to him to develop his game and fight for his place.

The side lacks an elite player (Kane and Son in the past, Eriksen in his prime, etc.)

- Werner will be released
- Bissouma will be moved on (contract talks with Bentancur gives us the 1+1, we were always likely to only keep one)
- Richi if he has a buyer makes sense (not physically reliable)

Replace with a RW, CM and 2nd CF would significantly improve the side

Johnson being bench instead of starter is a good thing (to your point, let him fight for that place), having a player capable of scoring 10-15 goals a season on bench is a luxury.

I think his particular fate is tied to the incoming manager/system

Last couple of games for me show what he brings to the team when not scoring, and highlight the issues some of us were bringing up in that if he doesn't score then what?

I still don't understand why raising that question got people so worked up to begin with. It's unreasonable to expect him to keep scoring at the rate he was previously.

Wouldn’t like to make a decision on him until I see him under another manager. True of more than him, and one of the main reasons we shouldn’t limp through until season’s end with Ange in charge.

Yep. He’s almost always ineffective when he doesn’t get on the score sheet. But it seems that it’s not PC to criticise him just because he took some stick earlier in the season on social media.

The manager won't matter, he's lacking the basics. Poor touch, poor control, can't run with the ball at his feet etc, a new coach isn't going to change those factors.

So does it mean when we scouted Brennan Johnson we did not notice Morgan Gibbs-White? I think he is their best attacking player.
When we first signed Johnson, this was my thinking as well. We went for the wrong Forest player IMO (wrong as in one is a better choice, for probably the same money).

I saw Johnson was linked with a return to Forest recently on Twitter, but didn't see any source.

He is now, think 2 years ago (when we were looking at Johnson) they were still questions

For us, Ange was looking for a winger and Maddison was our purchase in that creative/attacking midfield role

I appreciate he is dangerous in the box, but if we were looking for a winger we should have signed one that could dribble and beat a man.

Depends, if the system is get a cross to back post and have the "winger" be a poacher, he does that very well. And I've seen practice drills with us where that is exactly the play.

Again my issue is, him and Son work best when the pass is in front of them, with space for them to run into, except we tend to overcrowd those spaces nullifying a big part of their game (same thing with Son, you want a system that allows him to turn inside and have a shot at edge of box, not fudging useful if the system cause opposition to congest the area).

Those are system not player issues.

No but a coach who coaches may make him practice and improve his confidence.

I've seen those drills too, aimlessly just hitting low crosses into the box to no one in particular. Its a brick tactic. Are we flipping Sunday league?

He's 23, if he can't run and control a ball by now he never will be able to.
