    Look into its role in supplying the opposition with independent information that led to Glasnost and the Arab Spring. So also all the world adopting English as its second language over the past 75 years, rather than French or Spanish. That's BBC World Service as much as it is Hollywood.

    Yep - they should absolutely clear out all of Boris Johnson's political appointees and promote a new generation of professional journalists who have cut their teeth in the regions and on radio. Like always happened pre-2010.

    I'm not a fan of ex-players (of either gender) doing it. They are generally all a bit thick. Jimmy Armfield is about the only decent ex-player one I can remember. But some of the professional (female) commentators like Jacqui Oatley and Eleanor Oldroyd are very good.

    What do you think about BBC World Service and website and soft power? The BBC has always been the most effective branch of the Foreign Office. Ensuring most of the planet are culturally aligned and warm to us, as opposed to China or the US

    I think we'd struggle to buy one better than Muani (once he settles). Only by developing a youngster will we be able to raise that ceiling medium-to-long term. There's a massive dearth of established CFs in the world at the moment.

    It was till the Tories defunded it. BBC4 used to make loads of brilliant documentaries on all subjects, but it's not been able to make anything new/has been living off its back catalogue for nearly a decade now.
