Transfer thread

Think Savinho is injured? so don't see it happening, and we need to make sure we don't get just another "ok" player on that side (too many players in squad already for LW)

I think in summer we sell Richi to Everton, unless something changes, we let RKM go and buy a 2nd CF to rotate with Solanke.

CM, I think Biss, Bentancur, Sarr get moved on, I'd actually keep Paulhinha as a senior/rotation option, focus on a quality deeper midfielder.

Reminder at beginning of next season, Maddison will compete with Xavi, and Deki will be RW/10 option.

I think a lot of this will depend on whether can get a player like Wharton.

It's all about quality over quantity at this point. One more player this window and 2 or 3 only in the summer. No more. We also need to keep shifting players as we're doing.

Why move RKM on? I think there is a very high caliber player there who just needs a) service and b) players of a similar technical degree around him.

People don't pay attention, Tielmans is better than both off them and I was a fan of both. Tielmans has actually disappointed a tad in that he hasn't quite reached the level man at expected. He was rated similarly to Bergvall when he was 18-20 (probably even higher if I'm honest). He's turned into a very good player but not quite the top 5 in the world CM many were expecting.

I always felt Tielmans was very good but comfortable.
McGinn? I wanted him early. You could see what you'd get. He was a cheap buy for Villa if I recall...

It looks like we're back to 1 in, 1 out, zero net spend days:

Johnson - out £35m
Gallagher - in £35m
Veliz - out £12m
Souza - in £12m

So next, maybe Bissouma and Scarlett out? And in, whatever we can get with those funds.

If there are the funds available that were assumed (£150m), on top of the money from sales. Perhaps, the plan could be to buy later to stop a domino effect of transfers, by injecting capital into the market.

I'm reading that Veliz has exceeded his quota of games and can't be recalled automatically to be sold on. I guess Spurs need to get into a compensation conversation to soften him leaving. That could delay things.

McGinn I'll have to admit slipped under my radar. I vaguely remember hearing his name about but I don't recall ever properly watching him before he joined Villa.

How far away is Kulu? How quickly he can make it back, determines whether we need to sign attacking reinforcements.

Would like to us to sign Akliouche, as he has that Modric-esque quality on the ball. Not sure where we'd play him, but he could potentially play deeper in midfield and help us build play. Or fill in on the right now. Or cover the left wing. We do often sign players who have played well against us. He might not be as good as he was against us, playing for us! Only 23, I think he'll move somewhere in the summer, unless we snag him now.
Isn't he more of a right sided winger/wide midfielder?

Wasn't there talk previously that we were going to try and sign Illiman Ndiaye from Everton this window?
Any news/rumours on that?

Imo, he'd be a smart upgrade on Johnson

I think we need something else, everyone is focused on this magical deep play making 6, I don't think we are in that market at all.

If I look at the squad for rest of season

GK - Vic (think we will revisit in summer)
Back line - Porro - Romero - VDV - Udogie (with hopefully Souza allowing Spence to rotate with Porro)
Midfield - Paulhinha - Gallagher - Xavi (Gray, Sarr and later Bergvall offering rotation)
Frontline - Odobert - RKM/Solanke - Tel (Kudus back in 2 or so months)

It's the front line that has room for immediate impact, RW that could score would seem obvious. LW/CF would have to be a top level buy to make sense.
A really good deep playmaking 6 that is also good enough defensively would be my ideal signing. If we're not in the market for that I think that would be because there aren't any available that's seen as good enough.

Agreed that another attacking player, primarily a wide player, would be a natural target as well. But need real quality. We have talents there, particularly on the left.

Everton are not going to sell and have no need to.

Yeah, agree.

Problem is, he's part of that Senegal team that are on a march to the AFCON final. He's not even with Everton until they come home next week after the final on Sunday.

Personally, I see us going more for a dedicated left winger than a Kudus cover / Johnson replacement. Kudus wasn't happy at West Ham because Bowen played in his position. He therefore won't want to be shunted to the left in our setup.
