Cristian Romero

But stil good enough to win man of the match in two consecutive Copa America finals.
That’s a cup competition and international football which isn’t a great standard
he was Motm and player of the tournament in europa too but doesn’t get near even when he has been fit to the premier league team of the season as voted for by his peers
We have had many players make that team before
Just checked and according to Google… Di Maria won that MOTM in the last final and the one before

Some.of you guys crack me up, he wants to leave so it is time to say how overrated he is.

Anyway as long as we can get a good price for him.
I don’t think that’s the case
I personally don’t want him to go
But it’s also the case, IMO, that spurs fan rate him much higher than fans of other teams. There is a reason …
He won’t be going anywhere imo because he wants Spain and the only top team that wants him can’t afford him
He has fudged himself like many others have in the past and will run down his contract here
My issue with him has always been two fold
His basic switching off
His willingness to do whatever is needed to play for his country (available over 90% of the time) but only available for us less than 50%
That is wrong for me. It’s also something that a protective buyer will look at
Was the same with Lo Celso. Supremely talented when he wanted to be but frequently unavailable until…
I’m sure there are others at other clubs I don’t know about
I’ll just add that he is the best ball playing CB probably in the world.

Have a feeling this one is to do with how important he actually is for us. I reckon he would have played a load more if we had actually got ourselves into a relegation scrap or alternatively in a fight for UEFA football via the league.

I would also applaud Danso for the cover he gave Romero to reduce the pressure on playing him. Danso was an immense sub in the final as well.

No idea
But I think players shouldn’t be allowed to be allowed to be called up for their country
Bit you know clubs would manipulate that

I've never rated him. To be a top CB you need to to be able concentrate for the full 90 minutes for more than just the biggest cup games.

To steal a thought from VFTL: Would you rather have a player that produces 8/9/10 out of 10 performances for 20% of the season and is average to bad for the rest or someone who's a 7 for 80% of the time?

And just look who his LCB partner was in the Copa America team of the tournament!

romero is good for the epl too - but I think we can still sell him and upgrade with leftovers.
especially with the way TF wants to play with highly structured and disciplined defending in numbers, I don't think a top-top CB is crucial unlike Angeball

Alternatively a more structured and disciplined defensive setup could make Romero look even better.

For a replacement to be an upgrade or even at a similar level for us would have to be excellent on the ball and particularly with his passing.

Of the players that play deep or drop deep we have 3 very good/excellent passers imo. Romero, Porro and Maddison. Maybe Gray or Bergvall will step up to that level, but we're definitely short on that front. Even if we bring in a quality deep midfield playmaker (and that's a big if) we need more, not less.

yes no doubt romero can be better under TF

however, if funds elsewhere if needed...

I just think we would probably lose more than we gain. Experience, leadership, on the ball quality... Difficult to replace even if partly replaced by players in other positions.

Strengthening by selling one of your best players can work well. Signing 2-3 players to replace the one. But that relies on all of the replacements to work out well and that's not always the case.

And if we want more experience and leadership in our team through new signings those players typically aren't exactly cheap.
