James Maddison

It's strange. He's Ange's most subbed player, and has only completed 90 minutes 5 times since he joined.

I just don't think he is a 90 min player, he is hardly a 45 min player recently.

I think he is massively overhyped, he should be, especially at his age and with his ambitions lifting games like today right up.........lets see how it goes.

Been massively disappointed in him

Compare him to Bruno Fernandes and it's night and day. No idea what it is, probably something mentally - he has the ability to be as good as him but just isn't....

I think it’s a bunch of things. He carries himself with so much confidence so that when he doesn’t dominate a game it raises questions. I think he’s about right for where are/have been in the last 5-10 seasons. I think in a functioning team he would have a similar impact to Eriksen (not in terms of quality, just importance.) The argument can then be that he should raise the level of the rest of the team…but this season has just been so brick for so many reasons that I find it hard to place any specific blame at his feet.

All that to say…I’ve not got the slightest clue.

He was virtually invisible, yet crucial!
We missed him at the start of the 2nd half, as he plays deeper than deki and makes in the midfield more of a 3. Took us some time to get foothold because of that.

Also very involved in the ties key moments, lost the ball for their first goal at the lane, set Pedro up for their equaliser and then won the penalty for the winner.

Was a bad but IMO fair challenge
The keeper had to go for it
And it was a clear penalty
But also it ended up dangerous
If all of that makes sense

I’m still not sure.

There is contact between keepers and attackers after an attempt on goal all the time, it’s rarely given as a penalty.

Player moves towards goal to get the attempt off, keeper comes out making themself big to block it. Which the guy last night did successfully by making the save.

I think the keeper did exactly what he was supposed to do there.

He hit Maddison before the save
That’s why it’s a pen

I love Madders. Hope he’s fine. Horrible challenge by the goalie, thankfully though the force may have been mitigated by the fact his torso hit him rather than the boot as in the Mateta collision.

I don’t think there was any intent - both he and Maddison seemed to be completely focused on the ball. The way he came out was reckless for me though.

Goalie led with his knee didn't he?

Led with knee, was clearly not in control, reckless tackle that endangered opponent.

GK's can get away with being more physical to "get there" for the ball, you are in no world just allowed to fudging attempt murder on the way in.

Maddison is very lucky boy if there is nothing serious sustained from that hit.
