Lucas Bergvall

I thought he was excellent, and there's definitely a case he could be MOTM.

This is what we need in a midfield player: ability to pass, carry, defend, anticipate, join attacks, fight for aerial duels... He's like a proper box-to-box midfielder but with more guile. The way he beat not one, but two AZ players knocking the ball around them in quick succession was simply disgusting to say the least.

I knew him before we signed him, from watching Allsvenskan, so I knew he was good and had bags of talent, but he's developed much more and much more quickly than I would ever had hoped for! It's just incredible how much he's grown into this level, in such short amount of time!

I thought this season would be limited to the occasional appearance in cups, and off the bench, and that he'd maybe be in with a shout of a starting place well into next season. But he's gone to become one of the first names on the team sheet!
Quite astonishing.

He will become a super player, and we should build the team around a central midfield of him and Gray, and we could be on for a legendary pairing for the next decade, like Modric/dembele, Vieira/Petit, Xavi/Busquets.

Agree, it's great the way he has flourished but people should remember not all young players develop in the same way. It doesn't mean all of our talented youngsters should be dropped in at the deep end to play week after week, especially those with no real previous mens football experience. Think Ange should take some credit for the way he blooded the youngsters, trusting some more than others but many getting some vital level of experience - maybe the guy does know a thing or two after 26 years of management in football.

Oh, and I can't believe you forgot to add the Winks/Sissoko pairing to your list :)....

Some nice insights in the presser as well. Ange said that the number 6 role had been worked on with the coaches. He mentioned that Bergval was overcomplicating things early season and running too much. He's now conserving energy and operating in the right areas. He also said that he hasn't left Deki's side since he joined the club. Deki spends all his time in the gym apparently and has been working with Bergval. Probably an insight into why Bergval looks so physically developed.

We need more like these 2.

And there was me thinking Ange doesn't do any tactical work and just wants all the players to charge forwards like headless chickens .....

Modric/Dembele? So it will be a midfield pairing that never happens? What a partnership it could have been though.

Barcelona already came calling, and he turned them down and joined us.

I can't see him going for a least a few years.
Looks like no Europe next season and less games for everyone. He might not go for a few years, but we don't have bargaining power now.

We don't have bargaining power? How on earth do you work that one out? 4 years left on his contract, he's going nowhere.

Players get their way don't they . Baerbs, modric, Bale etc. We get a lump of cash but if the player wants to they will. Champions league is more important a bargaining chip than years left on contract

That's only natural in a young kid, they think they can win every tackle, run for ever, and always have the ball. His maturity this season has been surprising, he was easy to wind up and over aggressive but he looks to have controlled that, I like aggression but it's got to be managed.

He is here, there has been no talk of him wanting to go, why do our fans want to try and burn everything down...
Previous experience I guess, literally all of our special players have been sold at some point excluding Son - but at different points, and not close to Bergvalls youthful age.

Also, we are in a position of strength now. We tie our talents down to big long contracts, and we don't need to sell so only a ridiculous offer could prize them away - and in this climate with PSR it is not something particularly likely to happen and if it does we will do well out of it....

They got their way because they had a year left on their contract. Kane found out that if you have a long contract you won't get your way.
Bergvall comes across as sensible. He's better off staying where he is and developing. He knows he'll get game time. Either way he won't have a chocie for another couple of years.
