Exeter City have failed to agree a deal to extend the loan deal of Tottenham Hotspur youngster Troy Archibald-Henville.

The defender had spent the first half of the season on loan at St James Park and he had made 17 appearances for the Grecians.

He also enjoyed a spell at the club last term and Exeter boss Paul Tisdale was keen to keep Archibald-Henville until the end of the season.

Tisdale held talks with Spurs regarding an extension, but the League One club have confirmed there was no positive outcome to the discussions.

Archibald-Henville is now due to return to White Hart Lane on Monday, leaving Tisdale to look elsewhere for defensive reinforcements before the close of the transfer window.

Ryan Mason and Jake Livermore both found the net on Saturday - with differing outcomes.

Ryan struck the winner for Yeovil in the League One derby against Exeter City but Jake's first goal for Peterborough United came as scant consolation in a 2-1 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship.

Steven Caulker impressed again in a 90-minute stint at the back for Yeovil, with striker Jon Obika completing the trio of Spurs players on loan at Huish Park to start for the Glovers. Meanwhile, their Spurs team-mate Troy Archibald-Henville started for Exeter and played 68 minutes as it ended 2-1 to Yeovil.

Staying in League One, Andros Townsend was in fine form again for MK Dons and set-up the winner for Jason Puncheon after just seven minutes against Tranmere. That was the only goal of the game with Andros closest to adding to the scoresheet when his 25-yard strike landed on the roof of the net in the second half.

In League Two, Adam Smith set-up the first goal as Torquay raced into a 2-0 lead against Burton Albion when his cross-shot was turned home by Chris Robertson. However, Burton hit back to win 3-2. Sam Cox was an unused substitute for Torquay.

David Button played 90 minutes for Shrewsbury in a 2-1 win against Dagenham & Redbridge.

In the FA Cup, Kyle Walker played a full shift for Sheffield United as the Blades suffered a 2-0 defeat at Bolton on Saturday.

John Bostock back. Brentford did not take up an option to extend loan. Harry says that Bostock has not improved. Sam Cox (D) yet to play for Torquay after being loaned earlier this month.

Teenage midfielder John Bostock’s attitude was questioned by Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp after Brentford decided not to extend his loan.

‘He wasn’t in the team, he was on the bench on Saturday and the Saturday before,’ said the Spurs manager of the 18-year-old signed from Crystal Palace in 2008.

‘When they go on loan they have to get in the team. If they’re not playing well enough then they don’t play.

    John Bostock

Learning curve: Harry Redknapp has told John Bostock to improve his attitude

‘I keep harping back to when I loaned out boys like Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard. I went to see Frank play for Swansea at the Vetch.

'Ankle-deep mud and he was fantastic. It didn’t bother him, he adjusted. You have to adjust.

‘You’re looking for them to make a real impact. And when you get them back you think — stick him in the team.’

Maybe he might feature him in some games, he might be on the bench for the replay at Elland road.

    27 January 2010

We have reached agreement with Galatasaray for Giovani Dos Santos to join the Turkish Süper Lig side on loan until the end of the season.

The young Mexico international forward joined us from Barcelona in June, 2008, and has gone on to make 15 appearances in our colours.

Gio also enjoyed a loan spell at Ipswich Town last season where he scored four goals in eight games.

He must have a future at the club then.

Or it could be that we want to hang on to him until he performs wonders for Mexico in the summer and can command twice the fee.

Would like to think if that were the case, however, that Harry would give him a chance in our colours

Great point. Good player GDS. I don't think he is an EPL player.

Galatasaray have a buy out clause on Giovani,
never know but I've got a feeling we've seen the last of him in a Tottenham shirt.

    Loan Watch

    27 January 2010

Ryan Mason got on the scoresheet for Yeovil Town again - but Tuesday wasn't the best of nights for our young players out on loan.

The 18-year-old midfielder came off the bench to score from the penalty spot late on, but it only served as scant consolation for the Glovers as they went down 2-1 at Tranmere Rovers.

Defender Steven Caulker played the full 90 minutes in the match, while striker Jon Obika was also a second half substitute.

Our only player to experience victory on the night was defender Kyle Walker, who played a key role in Sheffield United's convincing 3-0 win over Reading in the Championship.

His run and shot resulted in the Blades' second goal of the night, tapped home by Richard Cresswell.

The other two lads currently plying their trade in the Championship, namely Jake Livermore and Adel Taarabt, both experienced defeats.

Adel truly had a night to forget as Queens Park Rangers were thumped 5-0 at high-flying Nottingham Forest, while Jake is still looking for a first win of his loan spell at bottom club Peterborough United after they suffered their fourth straight defeat at home to Preston North End.

Back in League One, winger Andros Townsend experienced his first loss as an MK Dons player when they were defeated 2-0 at Colchester United.

And at the bottom of League Two, there was little to separate Barnet and Torquay United at Underhill, with Adam Smith playing 90 minutes for the visitors in a 1-1 draw.

Sam Cox came off the bench for Torquay 54 minutes into that game to make his debut for them, and only his second senior appearance.

was at the palace, peterboro game on saturday, jake livermore played the whole game and did nothing of note, PB were pretty awful tho, sometimes makes you question why you would loan a player out to a relegation team, especially as a midfielder who is largely by-passed during the game as ball after ball is hoofed up to a lone target man (mackail-smith who may be the worse player i've ever seen)

    Tom shines for U18s

    06 February 2010

Tom Carroll grabbed a hat-trick as our Under-18s beat Cardiff City 5-1 in the Premier Academy League on Saturday.

Playing in a central midfield role, Carroll scored the equaliser as the lads recovered from going 1-0 down early in the first half to dominate the game.

Harry Kane converted from Dean Parrett's free-kick to make it 2-1 before the break and Carroll was there to finish Jessie Waller-Lassen's cutback for 3-1 after 55 minutes.

Paul Jose Mpoku scored a fine goal for 4-1 five minutes later, Jamie Butler then saved a penalty before Carroll wrapped up a day to remember with his hat-trick goal from the spot after Waller-Lassen was brought down.

The five-goal haul means the lads have now scored 65 goals in 17 PAL matches - the highest by far across the PAL's four divisions.

"We played ever so well," said coach Alex Inglethorpe. "It was by no means easy for us. Cardiff were third at start of play and conditions were difficult, but we coped well.

"We went 1-0 down early but the lads deserve credit for the way they got back into it.

"Tom played in central midfield and that means he's played left-back and wide left this season.

"Playing in different positions is something we're keen for every player to do over the course of a season and their understanding of the game can only improve for doing that."

Spurs U18s: Butler; Byrne (Francis-Angol, 76), Durojaiye, Butcher, Blackwood; Waller-Lassen (McBride, 75), Carroll (Pritchard, 80), Nicholson, Mpoku; Parrett; Kane. Unused sub: Tapping.

    Loan watch

    09 February 2010

Jake Livermore helped Peterborough United to a much-needed win in the Championship on Saturday.

The central midfielder played 90 minutes in a 1-0 win against QPR at London Road. It was Jim Gannon's first game in charge after taking over from Mark Cooper and leaves Posh - beaten 4-0 at the Lane in the FA Cup - nine points adrift of safety.

Kyle Naughton made his debut for Middlesbrough and played 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town.

In League One, Andros Towsnend opened his account for MK Dons with a fine goal in a 3-1 win at Stockport. Andros played a one-two with Aaron Wilbraham, turned onto his left foot and curled into the corner from 16 yards.

Steven Caulker completed another 90 minutes as Yeovil recorded a 4-1 win at Wycombe. Jon Obika came on in the 73rd minute.

In League Two, David Button kept another clean sheet as Shrewsbury stayed in the promotion hunt with a 1-0 win at Macclesfield.

After two substitute appearances, Sam Cox made his first start for Torquay alongside Adam Smith. The pair played right and left-back and both completed 90-minute shifts as the Gulls went down 1-0 at Hereford.

Of our more senior players on loan, Robbie Keane scored his first goal for Celtic in a 4-2 Scottish Cup win at Dunfermline.

Jamie O'Hara played 75 minutes as Portsmouth lost 5-0 at Manchester United in the Premier League, while Alan Hutton made his debut for Sunderland in a 1-1 draw against Wigan.

In Turkey, Giovani played 86 minute of Galatasaray's 0-0 draw at Kayserispor in the Turkish Super Lig. That was a decent away point against the team currently in third place, not least as leader Fenerbahce were held to a 1-1 draw at home to 13th-place Diyarbakirspor. Fenerbahce top the table by a point after 20 games.
